What is Normal Distribution?
The normal distribution is the symmetric bell curve. About 68% of its values fall within one standard deviation of the mean, about 95% within two and about 99.7% within three. Many financial tools assume returns follow it, although real returns have more extreme values than it allows.
Why Normal Distribution matters
Risk figures built on a bell curve understate how often very large moves happen.
