What is Vesting?

Vesting means ownership of money in a retirement plan. Your own salary deferrals are always fully yours, but employer contributions may become yours gradually, or all at once, after a number of years of service set by the plan's vesting schedule.

Why Vesting matters

Leaving a job before employer contributions vest can mean leaving part of them behind.
