What is Employer match?

An employer match is money an employer adds to your workplace retirement plan when you contribute, often a set amount for every unit you put in, up to a limit. Some matches only become fully yours after you have worked there for a set period, which is called vesting.

Why Employer match matters

A match is an immediate return on your contribution before any investment growth, which is why it is treated as a special case.
