What is Risk-Free Rate?

The risk-free rate is the return available from an investment treated as having almost no default risk, usually short-term government bills. It is the baseline subtracted from a return to measure excess return in the Sharpe and Sortino ratios. It changes over time with interest rates.

Why Risk-Free Rate matters

A strategy is only adding value if it beats what money could earn with very little risk.
