What is Regression?
Regression is a method for finding the line that best describes how one variable changes with another. Simple linear regression fits a straight line by making the squared gaps between the points and the line as small as possible. In finance it is used to estimate beta and to test whether one series helps explain another.
Why Regression matters
It is the basic tool behind beta, factor models and many strategy tests, and the place overfitting begins.
