What is Relief at source?
Relief at source is the way many UK personal pensions, including most SIPPs, give tax relief. You pay in from taxed income, and the pension provider claims basic rate tax relief from the government and adds it to your pot. Higher and additional rate taxpayers can claim more through a Self Assessment tax return.
Why Relief at source matters
It explains why a pension balance can be larger than what you paid in before any investment growth.
