A range is a band between a support area at the bottom and a resistance area at the top, where price bounces back and forth without trending. While a market is ranging, price tends to fall back from the top and lift from the bottom. The range ends when price breaks out of either edge.
Recognizing a range tells you the market lacks a clear trend, which changes how the chart reads.
