What is Loss Aversion?

Loss aversion is the tendency for a loss to feel worse than a gain of the same size feels good. In the experiments behind prospect theory, people typically turned down a fair 50/50 bet unless the possible gain was a little over twice the possible loss.

Why Loss Aversion matters

Loss aversion pushes people to avoid taking small losses, which is how small losses become large ones.
