What is Long?
Being long means you own an asset and benefit if its price goes up. You typically go long by buying, then you exit by selling. A long position can lose value if the price falls, and the most you can lose on a simple long stock position is what you paid for it.
Why Long matters
Long is the most common position type, so understanding it is the baseline for everything else.
