What is Expected Value?

Expected value is the average result per try if the same bet could be repeated many times. It is found by multiplying each possible outcome by its probability and adding the results, with losses counted as negative. In trading, expected value per trade is usually called expectancy.

Why Expected Value matters

A bet with negative expected value loses money over enough repetitions, however good any single win feels.
