What is Cash equivalent?

A cash equivalent is a very short-term, low-risk holding that can be turned into cash quickly with little change in value. Savings accounts, money market funds and short-term government bills are common examples. They pay modest interest and rarely fall in value, but they tend to lag inflation over long periods.

Why Cash equivalent matters

Cash is the calm part of an asset allocation and the place money waits when it is needed soon.
